Aroostook County, ME

AROOSTOOK COUNTY, situated in the northeast part of Maine, adjoining the British provinces on the north and east, on the westerly side of St. John's river. It is traversed by Aroostook and Matawamkeg rivers. The northern part is unsettled, being principally covered by extensive pine forests. Courts are held at Conway. Pop. in 1840, 9,413; in 1850, 12,529. (Fanning's, 1853)
