CLINTON COUNTY, situated at the northeast part of New York, on the west side of Lake Champlain. Area, 932 square miles. Face of the county mountainous and hilly; soil generally inferior. Seat of justice, Plattsburgh. Pop. in 1820, 12,070; in 1830, 19,344; in 1840, 28,157; in 1850, 40,048.
