THE CIRCUS. – The performances at this place of amusement during the past week, have been very largely attended, and gave the utmost satisfaction. Many of the acts are new, and exceedingly attractive and interesting. Madame Virginia and M’lle Ida are superior equestriennes and graceful dancers. Mr. Armstrong is the most fearless and accomplished horseman that has visited our city for many years. Mr. Sherwood, as “Pete Jenkins,” is alone worth twice the price of admission asked. Master Sherwood stands pre-eminent as a tumbler. Tony Pastor, the clown, is the very concentration of genuine wit, and facetious, chaste and elegant, yet humorous and laughter-provoking as the most fun-loving could desire. The balance of the company give their various acts in an excellent manner. As a whole, this is really the best troupe we have seen for a long time. They remain three days longer, which announcement is sufficient to crowd their canvas, day and night.
