Civil war erupts in Mexico

Civil war erupts in Mexico, as troops supporting the illegitimate conservative government defeat a liberal militia stationed outside the city of Guanajuato.  The war comes to be known as the War of the Reform, so named because of the liberal constitutional reforms that divided the nation in the mid-1850s.
