THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD IN ORANGE COUNTY – The Goshen (N.Y.) Independent says: “A branch of the Underground Railroad has been established in this county. The facts, as it is informed upon good authority, are these: A negro made his appearance in Chester one day last week, and represented that he was a runaway slave, eight days out from the State of Delaware; that he came across the country to Jersey City, where he was arrested, but succeeded in making his escape, and that he came from there across the country to Chester. Some individuals took him into their custody, and, after examining him and secreting him until dark, they raised some money, bought him a ticket to Elmira, and, giving him a letter to the Rev. Mr. BEECHER, of that city, they put him aboard the New-York and Erie cars bound westward.”
