Horace Greeley arrives in Lawrence, Kansas on his tour of the West

Horace Greeley spent a little over two weeks touring Kansas, and spoke at the first Kansas Republican Party convention in Osawatomie. He arrived in Colorado in early June, spent around fifteen days there and then made his way to San Francisco where he took ship for his return to New York. His journey was recorded famously in his letters to the New York Tribune and he wrote a book on his travels soon after he returned. (By John Osborne)
