This gentleman is the Republican nominee for governor of Pennsylvania. Though not much known beyond the limits of his State, he is nevertheless a gentleman of superior ability, and recognized as one of the ablest debaters in Pennsylvania. This last fact was a strong argument in favor of his nomination. The State election in Pennsylvania comes off three weeks before the Presidential contest, and in view of this fact Mr. Curtin’s canvass will be watched with great interest throughout the country. Mr. C. has been a member of the State Legislature, and was Secretary of State under Gov. Pollock, three years ago.
