Cloudy and Cool. Did not go to Church. Mother and Annie went. Mr. Krotel had an appropriate sermon. Text was “He being dead, yet speaketh.” I went in the evening with all the folks to see the remains of the late blessed President. It was very hard for some to get in the crowd was so great, at one in the morning the line extended from 5th and Chestnut to 21st street. The State Hall was open from 6 A.M. to 12 Oclock in the night: there was over 85,000 persons entered the building to view the remains. Pop got a pass from one of the councilmen and we went in the back way. As I look at that face lying there so cold, so stiff, there was a smile on his face. I can well say; Gone! gone!
