Widespread violence in Baltimore as the state elections are held

As the Maryland state elections were held, street violence erupted through much of Baltimore when groups of Reformers fought anti-Reform "rowdies" supporting the American Party. Open battles ensued in many precincts as one group or another tried to  prevent their opponents from reaching the polling places. Many were beaten and several of these clashes developed into gunfights.  Before midnight several people were reported killed.  The American Party won the day in the vote count in the city.
