Two merchant vessels collide in the Straits of Mackinaw in Michigan and five seaman are lost
The steamship Milwaukee of the American Transportation Company collided with the schooner J.H. Tiffany in the Straits of Mackinaw between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron and both vessels were lost. Five of the schooner's ten man crew were drowned. (By John Osborne)
