NATCHITOCHES PARISH, situated in the westerly part of Louisiana, and traversed by Red river. Area, 4000 square miles. Face of the country generally hilly; soil barren, except along Red river. Beat of justice, Natchitoches. Pop. in 1810, 2,870; in 1820, 7,486; in 1830, 7,905; in 1840, 14,350; in 1850, 14,201.
