Sir William Napier, Peninsula War general and distinguished military historian, dies in London

British general and author Sir William Napier died at his home in Clapham Park, London aged seventy-four.  Napier had served in the Peninsula War and after his retirement wrote a multi-volume history of the campaign.  He went on to write on other campaigns and at his death was considered the most distinguished military historian Britain had produced so far.  (By John Osborne)
