Queen Isabella II had approved the preliminary terms of the treaty between Spain and Morocco in March.  The final treaty signed was significant for the ceding of territory to Spain, leaving the city of Tetuan in the hands of the Spanish for a period, and the imposition of an indemnity on the North African state of twenty million piastres.  (By John Osborne)
