CHATHAM COUNTY, situated in the central part of North Carolina, and traversed by Haw and Deep rivers. Area, 858 square miles. Face of the country generally hilly; soil varied. Seat of justice, Pittsborough. Pop. in 1820, 12,661; in 1830, 15,499; in 1840, 16,242; in 1850, 18,449.
