CHOWAN COUNTY, situated in the northeast part of North Carolina, on the northeast side of Albemarle sound. Area, 200 square miles. Face of the country flat; soil in general of middling quality, but in some parts swampy. Seat of justice, Edenton. Pop. in 1820, 6,464; in 1830, 6,688; in 1840, 6,690; in 1850, 6,721.
