CUMBERLAND COUNTY, situated near the central part of North Carolina, and traversed by Cape Fear river. Area, 1,300 square miles. The soil in many places is fertile. Seat of justice, Fayetteville. Pop. in 1830, 14,824; in 1840, 15,284; in 1850, 20,610.
