HALIFAX COUNTY, situated toward the northerly part of North Carolina, with Roanoke river on the northeast. Area, 720 square miles. Face of the country, generally level; soil fertile. Seat of justice, Halifax. Pop. in 1810, 15,620; in 1820, 17,237; in 1830, 17,738; 1840, 16,865; in 1850, 16,589.
