HYDE COUNTY, situated in the eastern part of North Carolina, on Pamlico sound. Area, 800 square miles. Face of the country low, flat, and marshy; soil, generally unproductive. Seat of justice, Swan Quarter. Pop. in 1810, 6,029; in 1820, 4,967; in 1830, 6,177; in 1840, 6,458; in 1850, 7,636.
