PERQUIMANS COUNTY, situated in the northeast part of North Carolina, with Albemarle Sound on the southeast, and traversed by Perquimans river. Area, 175 square miles. Face of the country, level and marshy; soil, generally productive. Seat of justice, Hertford. Pop. in 1810, 6,052; in 1820, 6,859; in 1830, 7,417; in 1840, 7,346; in 1850, 7,332.
