Edward Warren was a North Carolinian doctor who had studied in Philadelphia and Paris. He practiced with his father in Edenton, North Carolina, then taught at the University of Maryland. During the Civil War, after a time with the Army of Northern Virginia, he was Surgeon-General of North Carolina from 1863 to 1865, with the rank of brigadier-general. In 1873 served as the surgeon in chief of the Egyptian Army. He moved to Paris in France, opened a successful practice and died there in 1893. (By John Osborne)
