Moses Dunmore was born in Cecil County, Maryland and later joined the United States Colored Troops during the Civil War. He grew up in a large extended family of free blacks in Maryland, but at some point moved to Pennsylvania. Campbell’s service records indicate that he worked as a farmer before the war. In July 1863, he went to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and joined the 3rd USCT Regiment. His regiment participated in several operations at Fort Wagner, South Carolina and in Florida before he mustered out on October 31, 1865 while stationed at Jacksonville, Florida. Moses Dunmore died in February 1920 and was buried in the Union Hill Cemetery, located in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. (By Don Sailer)
