THE PRESIDENT ON THE STUMP.
It would seem that from the 4th of March, 1857, James Buchanan has most industriously tried to render himself as infamous as possible. If this was his end and aim, he may be well assured that his efforts have been entirely successful, and that the historian, if he is honest, must send his Administration down the tide of time as the most shamelessly profligate that ever disgraced our country. The last shameless deed of this veteran profligate, is his haranguing crowds in favor of the Yancey disunion ticket of Breckenridge and Lane. He has not only done this, but has countenanced the Janus-faced ticket of Breckenridge for the South and Douglas for the North. Such a crooked and dishonest policy is just the thing to suit Old Buck’s depraved taste. With him a trick is a thousand times preferable to a straightforward and manly course.
