Amos, Aquila

Aquila Amos was born in about 1823 in Baltimore, Maryland and was living in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania by 1850 working as a barber. He married Ann E. Amos and had two children. Amos enlisted on January 20, 1864 in Boston into Company E of the 5th Massachusetts Cavalry during the Civil War. He was about thirty-nine years old at the time of his enlistment and stood about five feet and ten inches tall. In 1865, he was promoted to Regimental Colored Sergeant. He is buried in Lincoln Cemetery in Penbrook, Pennsylvania. (By Brenna McKelvey)
