Butler, Lemuel

Lemuel Butler was born in 1844 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and worked as a “teamster” prior to his involvement in the Civil War. He enlisted in Readville, Massachusetts on June 6, 1863 for a three year term as a private into Company H of the 55th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Butler was nineteen years old and about five feet eleven inches tall at the time. He mustered out in Charleston, South Carolina on August 29, 1865. Lemuel Butler died in 1886 and is buried in Midland Cemetery in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. (By Brenna McKelvey)
