Edward Lyons was born in Franklin, Pennsylvania and later served as a color guard in the United States Colored Troops. According to his service records, Lyons was a laborer before the war. In early February 1864, Lyons went to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and joined Company I of the 25th USCT. While training at Camp William Penn later that month, Lyons was appointed as color guard. The regiment was sent to Texas, but they arrived in New Orleans to find that those orders had been rescinded. Instead, the 25th USCT went to Florida for garrison duty. In July 1864, he received a promotion to corporal and, on September 1, 1864, he became a sergeant. His military service ended in Philadelphia on December 6, 1865. Lyons died in July 1903 and was buried in Lost Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in McAlisterville, Pennsylvania. (By Don Sailer)
