Hollingsworth, Isaac Amos

Isaac Amos Hollingsworth was a member of Company B of the 127th United States Colored Troops Regiment during the Civil War. The 127th trained at Camp William Penn in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from August to the end of September 1864, when they were called to City Point, Virginia. Hollingsworth’s regiment participated in many key military operations for the remainder of the war. The 127th fought in the battle of Chaffin’s Farm on September 29 and 30, 1864 at New Market Heights, Virginia. The regiment also took part in the Appomattox Campaign, which lasted from March 28 to April 9, 1865, when Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered his army to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse. The 127th continued their active duty in Texas until the regiment mustered out on October 20, 1865. Hollingsworth passed away on December 11, 1906 and was laid to rest in the Hosanna Meeting House Cemetery in Oxford, Pennsylvania. (By Brenna McKelvey)
