Butler, Emanuel T.

Emanuel T. Butler was born in Frederick County, Maryland around 1844 and served in the United States Colored Troops during the Civil War. According to his service records, Baker was a farmer before the conflict. In December 1863 Butler joined Company G of the 22nd USCT in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Butler was a corporal, but he lost that rank in early February 1864. While at the Battle of Chaffin’s Farm in Virginia on September 29, 1864, eighteen men from the 22nd USCT were wounded, including Butler. In October 1865 his military service ended while stationed at Brownsville, Texas. (By Don Sailer)
