ASHTABULA COUNTY, situated in the northeast part of Ohio, on Lake Erie, and watered by Grand and Ashtabula rivers. Length, 28 miles; breadth, 25, with an area of about 700 square miles. The face of the country is undulating, having a soil generally fertile, well-watered and wooded. Courts are held at Jefferson. Pop., in 1820, 7,382; in 1830, 14,584; in 1840, 23,724; in 1850, 28,766.
