FAIRFIELD COUNTY, situated toward the southeast part of Ohio. Area, 540 square miles. Face of the country level, interspersed with broken rocky ranges; soil varied. In the northern, alluvial part rich; toward the south, less fertile. Seat of justice, Lancaster. Pop. in 1810, 11,361; in 1820, 16,633; in 1830, 24,788; in 1840, 31,924; in 1850, 30,264.
