MONROE COUNTY, situated on the southeasterly boundary of Ohio, with Ohio river on the southeast. Area, 520 square miles. Face of the country broken and hilly; soil productive. Seat of justice, Woodsfield. Pop. in 1820, 4,641; in 1830, 8,768; in 1840, 18,521; in 1850, 28,151.
