PORTAGE COUNTY, situated in the northeasterly part of Ohio, and traversed by Cuyahoga and Tuscarawaa rivers, which are separated by a portage of one mile. Area, 500 square miles. Face of the country, elevated and broken. Seat of justice, Ravenna. Pop. in 1810, 2,995; in 1820, 10,095; in 1830, 18,827; in 1840, 22,965; in 1850, 24,419.
