Georgia troops seize the federal arsenal at Augusta
Seven hundred Georgia state troops seized the forty-three year old Augusta Armory in Augusta, Georgia just after noon. Colonel Josiah Gorgas was to turn this installation into an important mill for the manufacture of gunpowder during the coming war. (By John Osborne)
