FRANKLIN COUNTY, situated toward the easterly part of Missouri, with Missouri river on the north. Area, 850 square miles. Face of the country broken and hilly; soil mostly sterile. Seat of justice, Newport. Pop. in 1820, 2,379; in 1830, 3,484; in 1840, 7,515; in 1850, 11,021.
