CLAIBORNE COUNTY, situated on the north boundary of Tennessee, on the north side of Clinch river, and drained by Powell's river. Area, 580 square miles. Face of the country mountainous and hilly, except along the streams; soil of fair quality. Seat of justice, Tazewell. Pop. in 1820, 5,508; in 1830, 8,470; in 1840, 9,474; in 1850, 9,369.
