BELKNAP COUNTY, situated in the easterly part of New Hampshire, with Lake Winnipisiogee on the northeast, and Pemigewasset river on the west. Winnipisiogee river intersects this county, which forms a portion of its southeast boundary. Area, 288 square miles. The face of the country is mountainous and hilly, and much of the soil highly fertile. Seat of justice, Gilford. Pop. in 1850, 17,721.
