NAVAL EXPEDITIONS AND THE PRESS. – General McClellan has requested the editors of the principal seaports to abstain from publishing accounts of any naval expeditions which may be fitting out. A Washington correspondent of a Philadelphia paper serves up this fact in the shape of an announcement that “the New York local reporters are in a deal of tribulation. Henceforth they are forbidden to report naval movements at that port, on pain of incarceration at Fort Lafayette.” This is only a figment of the correspondent’s brain, fortunately for the New York reporters, who continue to tell as much as they know. We still read that this steamer is coaling, that another has hauled into the stream; the telegraph reports that another “is chartered by Government, and will load with horses”; and the rebels are thus put in possession of all the principal details of the affair. Fortunately the destination of any expedition that may be preparing, is not yet known, at the North at least, nor, let us hope, at the South.
