COLUMBIA COUNTY, situated on the east boundary of New York, with Hudson river on the west. Area, 624 square miles. Face of the country mountainous and hilly; soil generally favorable to agriculture. Seat of justice, Hudson. Pop. in 1830, 39,952; in 1840, 43,252; in 1850, 43,092.
