STEUBEN COUNTY, situated on the south boundary of New York, with Crooked lake in the northeast. Area, 1,400 square miles. Face of the country, hilly and broken; soil, of middling quality. Seat of justice, Bath. Pop. in 1810, 7,246; in 1820, 21,989; in 1830, 33,851; in 1840, 46,138; in 1850, 63,771.
