Associate Supreme Court Justice John Catron, who had been forced to leave his home in Nashville, Tennessee the year before due to his opposition to secession, returned to convene in the State Capitol the preliminary session of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee for the first time since the advent of the Confederacy. The full session met on May 13, 1862, with Catron charging the Grand Jury to indict all those aiding Confederate guerillas in the state. (By John Osborne)
