An extended ocean race between the 106 foot, 200 ton Fleetwing, owned by the son-in-law of Commodore Vanderbilt and the slightly smaller Henrietta, the property of a son of Gordon Bennett began in the early morning and extended to around noon two days later. Marred by erratic winds, the race between the yachts of two prominent New York names saw Fleetwing as the victor. (By John Osborne)
