President Andrew Johnson's "Swing Around the Circle" speaking tour travels across New Jersey to New York City.

President Johnson's speaking campaign continued with an early morning departure from Philadelphia, a train journey across New Jersey with several whistlestops. Reaching Jersey City, the party took the ferry to New York City, for a civic reception, a military review, and an evening banquet. Crowds were substantial and the welcome from the city's Democratic leadership was enthusiastic. (By John Osborne)
