Greek succession crisis ends when Prince William of Denmark becomes King George I of Greece

The Greek Parliament, after weeks of debate, formally invited Prince William of Denmark to become the nation's monarch. William accepted in a formal ceremony in Copenhagen a week later and became King George I of Greece, ending a six-month international crisis over who would succeed the deposed Greek ruler Otto I, a Bavarian prince who had ruled for thirty years.
