Hagerstown June 9th 1847
Dear Rev Emory
I read your letter to me of the riot [two words illegible] at the moment of great excitement, a number of our citizens having just returned from Carlisle having all the evidence making the guilt of Proffs McClintock in the matter indisputable, they would Say. I shew your letter to Bro Phelps & read portions of it to other gentlemen among whom was the Editor of Torch Light, [illegible] of the news & some seem to think that you have been deceived in the matter, and we of [illegible] consent think that you can be deceived & their [two words illegible] grow out of the [credibility?] these irresponsible men [illegible] to Professor Mc & the College & Church, We are waiting anxiously to hear from you further. I [enclose?] to you a copy of the “Torch Light,” Love to your family
