Appling County, Georgia, 1857
APPLING COUNTY, situated in the southeast part of Georgia, on the southerly side of Ocmulgee and Altamaha rivers. The northern part of this county is drained by Saltilla, and the southern by Suwanee rivers. The face of the country is generally level, with swamps in the southeasterly part. Courts are held at Holmesville. Pop. in 1820, 1,264; in 1830, 1,468; in 1840, 2,052; in 1850, 2,949. (Fanning's, 1853)
