BURKE COUNTY, situated on the northeast boundary of Georgia, on the southwest side of Savannah river. Length, 40 miles; mean breadth, 24, with an area of 960 square miles. The face of the country is generally undulating, and the soil of middling quality. Seat of justice, Waynesborough. Pop. in 1820, 11,576; in 1830, 17,888; in 1840, 13,176; in 1850, 16,100.
