BUTLER COUNTY, situated in the western part of Pennsylvania. Length, 35 miles; mean width, 24; with an area of 840 square miles. The face of the country is generally hilly; soil fertile and well watered. Seat of justice, Butler. Pop. in 1820, 10,251; in 1830, 14,683; in 1840. 22,378; in 1850, 30,346. (Fanning's, 1853)
