Craven County, North Carolina, 1857

CRAVEN COUNTY, situated on the southeast part of North Carolina, and traversed by the river Neuse. Area, 1,100 square miles. Face of the country generally flat; soil in part sandy and marshy. Seat of justice, Newbern. Pop. in 1820, 13,394; in 1830, 13,734; in 1840, 14,438; in 1850, 14,709. (Fanning's, 1853)
