MONTGOMERY COUNTY, situated on the southwest boundary of Maryland, with Potomac river on the southwest.  Area, 576 miles.  Face of the country uneven; soil generally poor.  Seat of justice, Rockville.  Pop. in 1810, 17980; in 1820, 16,400; in 1830, 19,816; in 1840, 14,669; in 1850, 15,860.
