SUMTER COUNTY, situated on the west boundary of Alabama, with Tombigbee and Little Tombigbee rivers on the east and northeast. Area, 1,200 square miles. Seat of justice, Livingston. Pop. in 1840, 29,937; in 1850, 22,250. (Fanning's, 1853)
