Representatives of France, Great Britain, and Austria sign the Vienna Note, a plan to resolve escalating tensions between Russia and the Ottoman Empire over the status of Orthodox Christians in Turkish territories.  Ultimately, the compromise will be rejected, leading to the Crimean War.
